Materials: Testing thermal insulators and thermal conductors using ice pops
Have you ever bought some ice pops on a summer's day and wondered how best to keep them frozen on the long journey home?
Today we discussed the many different ways that it could be done and tried to think about which way would be best (aside from deciding to eat them in the car). The children chose the different materials they wanted to test and then set themselves the challenge of finding out which material could be best used to keep our Mr Freeze Pops frozen- which materials were the best insulators and which we should perhaps avoid (thermal conductors). Some of results were quite surprising (which then led us to discussions about how to run a fair test). I wonder which material you would use to keep the warm air out and your Mr Freeze Pops frozen?
