Coco is here to make a positive impact on our students’ well-being.

We hope that Coco will have the following impact:

Coco’s presence has an immediate calming effect. When children interact with her, their stress and anxiety levels decrease. The simple act of petting Coco can trigger the release of oxytocin, a hormone associated with trust and emotional bonding. This soothing interaction helps children feel more at ease, especially during challenging moments.

  1. Improved School Attendance:
    • Coco’s friendly face within school will makes coming to school a joyous experience. Children who may struggle with attendance due to anxiety or emotional issues find comfort in Coco’s presence. Knowing that Coco awaits them encourages regular attendance, creating a positive association with the school environment.
  2. Enhanced Emotional Well-Being:
    • The human-animal bond with Coco fosters emotional well-being. Children experience unconditional love and acceptance from her. This boosts their self-esteem, reduces feelings of isolation, and contributes to overall happiness. Coco becomes a trusted confidante, allowing children to express themselves freely.
  3. Increased Confidence and Motivation:
    • Coco’s nonjudgmental nature encourages children to participate actively. Whether reading aloud to her or simply sharing thoughts, children gain confidence in their abilities. This newfound confidence extends beyond interactions with Coco, positively impacting their motivation and engagement in class.
  4. Positive Relationships and Trust:
    • Through Coco, children learn empathy, compassion, and responsibility. They develop positive relationships not only with the dog but also with their peers. Trusting and caring for Coco creates a sense of community within the school, fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

Coco’s presence enriches our school life by promoting emotional well-being, reducing stress, and creating a warm, inviting environment.

Additional notes:

A comprehensive risk assessment has been conducted in preparation for Coco's visit, and we have taken every measure to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff members. Additionally, Coco has undergone accredited training both as a puppy and as an adult dog through the Dog Trust, which further demonstrates our commitment to ensuring a safe and positive experience for everyone involved.

We are keenly aware of the diverse needs and preferences of our students and their families. If your child has any allergies, phobias, or if you would prefer that your child does not have direct contact with Coco, please do not hesitate to inform the School Office.

We are committed to ensuring that every child feels comfortable and safe in our school environment.

As we continue to explore the possibility of incorporating a well-being dog into our school community, we appreciate your ongoing support and understanding.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this initiative, please contact the School Office.
